CHARACTER NAME: Veronica Mars
FANDOM: Veronica Mars (TV series)
CHRONOLOGY: Just after Episode 2.11 (Donut Run) - The love of Veronica’s life (Duncan Kane) has just border hopped with his daughter to escape prosecution for kidnapping and Veronica is mourning the loss, however quietly. She is somewhat at peace with the events of the previous year and is making a fresh start while trying to uncover the truth behind a school bus crash tragedy and the framing of Logan Echolls for the murder of a PCH biker.

CLASS: Hero(ine), thank you very much.
SUPERHERO NAME: Bitch Detective
ALTER EGO: Veronica Mars, photographer/private investigator.

BACKGROUND:

Veronica was once your average teenager – pretty and popular, even if that popularity was purely by proxy of her boyfriend (Duncan Kane) being the son of one of the richest men in Neptune. Her life was almost perfect until the day they found her best friend, Lilly Kane, murdered by her family’s pool. After that, everything around her seemed to spiral out of control. Her father was decommissioned from his job as Sheriff for his implication that Jake Kane (Lilly and Duncan’s father) had something to do with the murder. Her mother became an alcoholic and abandoned Veronica and her father a few months later and Veronica was blacklisted from the social standings of Neptune’s ‘it’ crowd when she refused to denounce her father, Keith Mars, and his actions as Sheriff regarding the Kane murder.

A couple of months after Lilly’s death, Veronica attended a party hosted by her old friends in an attempt to show that she was still around, regardless of their attempts to ostracize her. That night, things quickly got much worse and she woke up the next morning having been drugged and raped. Confused and hurt, she made it to the police station on her own to report the rape, but was accused of being a liar by Neptune’s new Sheriff.

She was so devastated by this dismissal that she accepted her outcast status and used her talents and energies to assist her father in his detective agency and even began to solve cases on her own when he was overbooked. Gradually she made new friends with those students who had always been part of the others at Neptune High and took on her own personal interest cases to solve when she wasn’t working for her father. Her focus was always on solving Lilly’s murder, as she and her father both believed that the wrong man was incarcerated for the crime, and even though her father told her to stay away from it, Veronica continued to do whatever she could to gather evidence and uncover the truth.

When she finally discovered from another student what happened the night that she was raped, that she was seen in bed with Duncan, she confronts him with why, if it was consensual, he left her there alone and he confesses that he was scared because his mother had told him that she was his sister. Once again, though relieved that she hadn’t been raped, Veronica was left emotionally wrecked and a secret search for the truth behind her parentage began. Both Veronica's mother had been against their relationship from the beginning, but it wasn’t until after these events that Keith Mars had a paternity test and proved that Veronica was indeed his daughter. Before the results were in, though, she signed a waiver of any claim she might have had on the Kane fortune in good faith, that, regardless, she was happy as Keith’s daughter and didn’t want any part of their money. Right around this time, too, Veronica’s mother resurfaces claiming that she has sobered up and wants to be back in their lives.

Veronica and Keith were able to uncover more evidence in Lilly Kane’s murder, including sex tapes that had been hidden showing Lilly and Aaron Echoll’s (her boyfriend’s father) in bed together. Aaron tried to kill Veronica to silence her but is stopped by Keith, who ended up with burn injuries in the hospital. After this confrontation, Veronica came home and revealed to her mother that she knew she hadn’t stopped drinking and she wasted Veronica’s college money and Veronica told her to leave before her father got home from the hospital.

After solving Lilly’s murder, she continued to bury herself in solving crimes and her aptitude for such earned her more respect from the students and her peers and she was soon convinced to work for one of the crowd who had blacklisted her after Lilly’s death – Logan Echolls, in an attempt to find out whether his mother really had died or if she had faked her death. Setting their circumstances and differences aside, she ends up falling for Logan and they date over the summer between their Junior and Senior year. She breaks up with him, though, not able to tolerate his bad-boy ways and ends up getting back together with Duncan.

During their senior year, a school bus carrying Duncan’s ex-girlfriend, Meg, and other Neptune High students ran off a cliff during a school field trip and Veronica was shocked to uncover evidence that led her to believe that the crash may have been intended for her. There is scandal when it is revealed that Meg, who survived the crash but is in critical condition, is also pregnant with Duncan’s child and Veronica and Duncan are led to believe that her sister has been being abused by her parents. After some investigating, they are able to prove that this was indeed the case and Duncan sees no alternative but to try to get custody of his daughter so that Meg’s parents will not have any say in her care. After Meg’s death, the baby survives and Duncan and Veronica hatch a scheme to help him disappear, along with Lilly – his daughter. Their ruse is successful and Duncan makes it safely to Mexico, leaving behind a saddened but stoic Veronica.

PERSONALITY:

Veronica has just begun to get her life back after a really tough year. She lost her best friend, her boyfriend, her mother, all in such a short span of time that it has hardened her to relationships and made her outlook very dismal when it comes to the people she wants to care about. With one exception, her father, who remains her best friend, and the person she looks up to most in her life. She struggles with her sense of identity only as far as who she is on the inside. The face that she gives to the world is always one of strength and she’s always the one that pulls things together when everyone else seems to be at a loss.

For a brief time she was able to open up to Logan, but she felt that even he didn’t really understand her or what she needed from a relationship and then when she got back with Duncan, it was for such a short period that she tried to be stoic and not be affected by the loss when he left. To say that Veronica has major trust and commitment issues would be a vast understatement, and when it comes down to the nitty gritty, she truly only trusts herself.

She is generally an outgoing girl with a dry sense of humor and she has an incredibly sharp wit. She isn’t afraid to make a snide remark when the situation screams for it, and sometimes even when it’s not really necessary. She thwarts authority to accomplish whatever goals she deems important and isn’t afraid to stick her neck out for a friend – or even for a job. Veronica calls ‘em like she sees ‘em and is unapologetic about who she is. Deep down, she knows she is constantly seeking approval and acceptance, while at the same time maintaining a façade of indifference.

POWER:

Veronica has a naturally keen sense of observation and attention to detail. In the City, I think she is ‘gifted’ with an eidetic (photographic) memory and the ability to always find a ride when she needs one.

[CHARACTER SAMPLES]
COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:

So, things around this place are kinda funny, huh? I mean, you’ve got cops and robbers and the whole bad guy schtick, but then there’s these heroes. Super heroes, which, don’t get me wrong, is kinda cool and amazing, but if the whole point is that we’re all supposed to be heroes (except for the villains, obviously), how come more people aren’t running around in inappropriately tight rainbow spandex? At first I thought maybe this was going to be like some episode of The Amazing Race or Survivor but it seems like what people do around here is just… mingle.

What the hell, right?

Phenomenal cosmic powers, crazy time warp new dimension, and people are throwing parties or just…whatever. I need something to do. Surely there’s got to be somebody doing something wrong around here. Oh, and I’ll need a camera...and clothes. I really hope you guys have a Bloomingdales.

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:

There wasn’t much she could do, regardless of how much she loved Duncan, how much she would have given up for him, going with him would’ve been even more conspicuous than either of them could risk and she wanted him to be safe. She wanted him to be happy, in so much as a teenage father on the run could be happy.

But he had money and he was smarter than anyone ever gave him credit for. He’d be a great dad and she had to trust that it was for the best.

Even if her heart was shattered into a thousand pieces, she was doing what was right. And that was her job, her fate or destiny or whatever messed up path life seemed to want her on. She was stuck here in Neptune, stuck in school, just… stuck. She’d never really felt her age, but especially after Lilly died everything seemed to go by so fast. What childhood she had left was buried along with her best friend and everything since was some trial by fire nightmare she’d yet to find a way out of.

She would, though. She had to. She wasn’t going to stay in Neptune forever, even if that meant leaving her father behind.

She’d make him proud.

FINAL NOTES ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER:
I have skimmed over a few ‘case’ details in Veronica’s back story because it gets very convoluted and have tried to pick the things I feel are most relevant to her personal life and personality at the time she is ‘Ported into the City.
